Flo Headlam
Role in the Green Hub: Patron
A wealth of creative qualities, skills honed in the charity sector, a general curiosity and quest for knowledge and boundless energy. Flo has brought all these elements together in garden design, where she creates gardens in which her clients feel immediately at home .
“After more than 20 years working in the charity sector, I began a journey into horticulture which has been immensely rewarding and brought me many opportunities and discoveries.”
Currently designer/presenter on BBC Garden Rescue and formerly part of the presentation team on BBC Gardeners’ World 2017-19. Flo is also involved in several community gardening initiatives in the London area, and she is delighted to now be working with the Green Hub Project for Teens in Surrey. She has been invited to be an Equity Ambassador for BALI and an Ambassador for the Great British Garden Festival.
Who knew this about Flo…?
“I speak fluent French, conversational Italian and some Spanish. I studied Yoruba at SOAS for two years. Languages is definitely my thing!”
Simon Callaghan
Role in the Green Hub: Management Board (Finance)
Simon is involved in a number of local charities, and has a characteristic self deprecating style. “I worked in the City for the same financial services company for 40 years – with a few ownership changes – and this they say qualifies me to be Treasurer of the Green Hub!”
Who knew this about Simon …?
“I like boats and gardens but not an expert in either!”
Mike Cawthra
Role in the Green Hub: Management Board (Secretary)
Mike is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, recently retired from a long career in Engineering Management. He first met Tone through his wife who is a fellow Chiropractor and has now joined Green Hub both as committee member and garden volunteer.
“When people asked me what I wanted to do in retirement, the first part of my answer was that I wanted to give back to my community. The second part of the answer was that I was going to take formal qualifications in horticulture, which I began in 2021 and will (I hope!) complete in 2023. I am lucky to have my own garden but I witnessed during Covid the difference which (lack of) access to outside space was making to many peoples mental health. The aims of Green Hub are so commendable in this arena and I am delighted to be able to help in any way that I can.”
Who knew this about Mike…?
“Mike took part in the UK round of the World Rally Championship, the RAC Rally, in both 1995 and 1996.”
Anthea Cooke
Role in the Green Hub: Trustee, Management Board (Evaluation)
Anthea is an independent Mental Health and Wellbeing Specialist with over 30 years’ experience. She has worked with health and mental health promotion and services in and with the NHS, Department of Health, Local Government; and in Community and Voluntary sectors, as well as internationally.
“I am also a Mum, Grandmother, Partner, Life Coach, tree hugger/conservationist, gardener, knitter, and love learning new skills. I am now able to ‘give back’ some of my skills and time to local projects that inspire me such as the exciting aims of the Green Hub Project. I believe in investing now in young people on behalf of seven generations down the line!”
Who knew this about Anthea …?
“I was in the Girl Guides Jubilee Gang Show at Wembley Arena as a clown on stilts and dropped my trousers in front of Princess Margaret to show her my ‘spotty pantaloons’!”
Doug Emslie
Role in the Green Hub: Trustee
Doug is Chair of Cuil Bay Capital, and was most recently CEO of Tarsus Group, and previously held senior positions at Blenheim Group plc and after its takeover, United Business Media plc. He is a past Chairman and Director of the Association of Event Organisers (AEO), as well as past Chairman of the Events Industry Alliance. He is a board member of US industry advocacy body, the Exhibition & Conference Alliance (ECA) and was also the first international board member of the US industry trade body, SISO, where he went on to serve as Chair. Douglas oversaw the acquisition of Tarsus Group by Informa plc where he now acts as Senior Advisor on the combination of the two businesses.
Who knew this about Doug…?
“In June 2023, I ran the 96 miles of the West Highlands Way with my long-term running buddy, Mike Seaman. We completed it in just over 34 hours, and raised £115,000 for charity – a large chunk of which we were delighted to give to Green Hub. ”
Vanessa Lanham-Day
Role in the Green Hub: Co-Founder, Trustee & Management Board (Chair)
Vanessa is well known locally as a small business mentor and marketing specialist. Over the years she has accumulated a whole range of creative and business skills, which she is now deploying for the benefit of the Green Hub. Her specialist areas of responsibility are developing the Green Hub brand, fundraising and driving operational elements forward.
“Growing any business (or charity) is all about harnessing momentum – never dropping the ball – and that can be a challenge when you are totally reliant on a volunteer force. Which is why I see my role as being to make sure we deliver the structure, systems and resources our team members need to fulfil their considerable potential.
“I’ve known Tone for years – she’s an amazing lady full of passion. I’m absolutely delighted to be sharing this journey with her.”
Who knew this about Vanessa …?
“I’m secretly rather proud of owning a clipboard and being known as ‘The ButtKicker!””
Louise Murray
Role in the Green Hub: Management Board (Garden Manager – Hydons)
Louise has been flower farming on her small holding since 2021, as well as having three children, a husband and dogs. Hydon’s is special and she says wanted to see if she could use her amazing space to help people. “I reached out to Green Hub – luckily at a moment when an additional space for teens was needed – and our partnership was born.”
Who knew this about Louise…?
“In my spare time(!!) I work with my husband in our games business.”
John Paine
Role in the Green Hub: Management Board (Garden Projects)
John worked in banking for 42 years prior to his retirement in 2021. During his career he started at Midland Bank at the bottom of Friary Street in Guildford and, after 4 years, moved to London to work with Baring Brothers. Just three months later the bank famously ‘crashed’ in February 1995 – creating a somewhat challenging start to his married life with Gabrielle, only 3 months later!
“Working in the Green Hub Garden is very rewarding and provides an opportunity to use the tools I have accumulated over the years. I feel that Green Hub is such a worthwhile cause as children’s mental health is so important as is the support of their parents.”
Who knew this about John…?
“In my early twenties I was chairman of a youth group who ran exceptionally popular and profitable discos in Brook village hall – once, Godalming College had to cancel their own event when the dates clashed!”
James Russell-Stracey
Role in the Green Hub: Management Board (Deputy Chair & Garden Manager – Caroline’s Garden)
James rates enthusiasm rather than knowledge as his strongest attribute when it comes to gardening! He says that it’s the simple tasks that often bring the greatest satisfaction to the amateur who just wants to get involved.
“With a career history in Asian finance, the Green Hub is a far cry from my background but I have been so energised by the venture and simply inspired by the teens and all the volunteers committed to the project. The satisfaction from just putting something in the ground and seeing it flourish is innate in us all – that and a bit of nurturing is all it takes.”
He has yet to introduce any new tropical species into the garden but we’ll see what strange plants arrive in the future.
Who knew this about James…?
“I can get absorbed in almost any sport you can imagine … but I’m still waiting for someone to explain baseball – it’s just so slow!”
Chris Stone
Role in the Green Hub: Management Board (Health & Safety)
Chris founded Bushy Business – a garden landscape and maintenance business based in Cranleigh – over 20 years ago and now, with a team of nearly 30, looks after gardens all over Surrey and Hampshire. He lives locally with his wife and two teenage sons.
“Being outdoors in the garden is one of the most powerful ways to invest yourself and it’s what I do every time I need to take time out to think and reflect.
“With two teenage boys of my own, I can see only too well how the pressures of the modern age put so much upon this generation and I hope my passion for gardens can help steer the Green Hub project in the right direction.”
Who knew this about Chris …?
“My VW camper van is my guilty pleasure – well, that and Liverpool FC!”
Tone Tellefsen-Hughes
Role in the Green Hub: Co-Founder, Trustee & Management Board (Safeguarding)
Tone is a specialist paediatric chiropractor who worked as an associate in several clinics before opening Luck’s Yard Clinic in Milford, Surrey in 2007. Her vision was always to create a multi-practitioner centre for complementary health care.
“I have specialised in paediatrics for most of my career and see children from new-born to 18 most days at the clinic. Pre-pandemic, I was regularly visiting school to do talks on health and wellbeing, and I noticed that teenagers were struggling more and more with emotional and wellbeing issues; so I started incorporating this into my lectures.
“In 2019, I had the opportunity to lease a secluded walled garden attached directly to Luck’s Yard Clinic. The garden was so magical that I just knew it could lend itself to a perfect community garden project for teens with issues around mental health and wellbeing. The Green Hub Teen Garden was born.”
Who knew this about Tone …?
“I’m passionate about wild swimming as it makes me feel so alive – whatever the weather (or temperature!)”

Alison Attenborough
Teen Recruitment & Parent Hub Manager
Alison spent most of her career in Marketing working in a number of different countries including Singapore, New York and Saudi Arabia. However she considers her most important role being a mother to 4 teenage girls and 2 crazy spaniels.
A love of the outdoors and passion for helping young people attracted her to the Green Hub where she started volunteering as teen co-ordinator in 2021. In this role she is the first point of contact for the families. In speaking to hundreds of parents contacting the Green Hub they realised that there is little support for the parents. The Parent Hub was set up in May 2023 and Alison became facilitator of the monthly meetings. In 2023 she completed a ICF coaching course to help in this role.
Alison looks forwarding to expanding the number of teens the Green Hub can reach and providing and providing a safe and supportive space for the Parents at the Parent Hub
Who knew this about Alison…?
“I have Triplets and love houseplants!”

“I joined Green Hub simply because there is a lack of support out there for our teens; these are our future leaders and innovators and they deserve to flourish. Anything I can do to be a part of that process fills my heart with joy.”
Who knew this about Natasha…?
“I used to be a champion disco dancer!”
