Volunteer vetting & training
We take our role in the selection of our adult volunteers very seriously. It is important that we find the right people with the right skills and with a passion for helping young people.
Typically, our garden volunteers already have a keen interest – and often qualifications – in gardening and horticulture. Many have worked professionally or voluntarily with young people, and all share a passion for wanting to make a difference to young lives.
- All our volunteers are interviewed in person
- We ask all new volunteers to submit two referees and these are requested and approved by Green Hub before appointment
- All our volunteers are subject to the minimum Basic DBS check
- Where a volunteer will come into contact with Teens, they are subject to the Enhanced DBS check
- All teen-facing volunteers are required to undertake the following training BEFORE they work with our teens:
- Safeguarding for Children Certificate – the required pass mark is 90%
- Green Hub – Mental Health Awareness – Parts 1 & 2
- Green Hub – Garden Induction & Safety – Parts 1 & 2
- Within 6 months of joining Green Hub , we ask that they:
- LGBTQ and Autism Awareness
- And, at the Basic First Aid training at the earliest opportunity after their appointment (usually within 3-6 months)
- DBS, Safeguarding and First Aid certificates must be renewed after 36 months
- All volunteers are required to sign our Volunteer Commitment, a code of conduct which confirms they agree to be true to the Green Hub vision and values and that they have read and are familiar with our key policies:
- Safeguarding
- Health & Safety
- Equal Opportunity & Diversity
