Summer Hub at Hydons Flower Farm

Aimed at year 6 pupils transitioning from Primary to Secondary School in September ’26 

Thursdays, 9.30am to 12.30pm – July 30th to August 27th 2026 (5 weeks)

£149 per child

We are delighted to be offering our first-ever public Summer Hub programme, all based around having fun in nature. Working with our partners, Hydons Flower Farm in Hydestile, we are inviting young people to come and enjoy spending time outdoors on a working farm.

It’s a great way to have fun and make friends in the summer holidays, as well as exploring different aspects of nature, working with the animals, the farm and flowers. 

Making the BIG step up to Secondary School

We know that transitioning from Primary School to Secondary School can be quite challenging for children, it’s such a monumental change! It’s much bigger with loads more people to deal with, a new way of learning, and just navigating the layout of the school and getting to classes on time! It can all feel a bit daunting. 

The aim of Summer Hub is to combine having fun in the outdoors, whilst also building confidence and resilience by meeting new people and being in a new environment. These are fantastic skills to take on to Secondary School. 

It’s worth saying that, whilst Green Hub traditionally only works with young people struggling with specific mental health challenges, Summer Hub is a open to everyone. It’s simply a summer holiday activity programme for 10-11 year olds about to change schools, and is 100% about flowers, farming, fresh air, friendship – and of course, FUN!

Our programmes are based around small groups working together, which is why there are just 12 spaces available. 

Cost: £149 per child for the full 5 week programme

Please note… Summer Hub is  a 5 week programme costing £149 per child. Because we understand that family holidays may eat into this by one or two weeks, we have priced it accordingly. To get real benefit from attending, your child needs to be able to come along to at least 3 of the 5 sessions. 

Here’s how it all works …

Our programme is built around The FIVE ways to wellbeing, which are proven to make you feel great about yourself. Each week the session will explore one of the ‘five ways’ in more detail, through fun and play activities. (See the week-by-by plan below)

Each session will involve:

  • Animal care
  • Tasks in the flower farm
  • Creative tasks
  • Recording achievements in a journal

The skills children will gain include…

  • Basic animal care
  • Safe animal handling
  • Flower harvesting
  • Seed sowing and plant care
  • Bouquet making
  • Observation and nature awareness
  • Confidence working in small teams

Other things you may want to know: 

  • Signing up info:
    • Once you have purchased your space(s) for Summer Hub, we will be in contact with you to understand more about your child, so that we can welcome them properly, as well as gathering important information on emergency contacts, allergies and so forth. 
    • Your child’s place will not be confirmed until we have received payment and our ‘detailed information’ form has been completed by the parent and reviewed by our team. 
    • Your child needs to be able to attend a minimum of 3 of the 5 weeks – we will ask you to let us know any known absence dates when you register.  
    • The fee of £149 is due regardless of how many sessions your child attends. 
    • Refunds will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. 
  • Session info:
    • Sessions run from 9.30am to 12,30pm. Parents are asked to drop off at 9.30am – we want to be up and running by 9.40am at the very latest.
    • Hydons flower Farm, in Hydestile, can be a bit tricky to find – don’t worry, we will send you full instructions on how to get there. 
    • There will be a refreshment break during the session. 
  • Who we are:
    • Green Hub is a registered Charity, specialising working with young people. 
    • Hydons Flower Farm CIC has partnered with Green Hub since 2023.
    • All our volunteers and staff are trained in safeguarding, as well as undergoing appropriate DBS checks.
