I'm a mother of three - a little girl and two teenage boys. I enjoy nature and spend my weekends outside walking, usually in the woods hunting for wild mushrooms with our little 4 legged friend. The Green hub helped us with our son when we needed it most and so I feel proud to be able to offer something back and be part of helping many other teens facing similar struggles, get back on their feet.

Who knew this about Mike…?

“Mike took part in the UK round of the World Rally Championship, the RAC Rally, in both 1995 and 1996.”

Mike is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, recently retired from a long career in Engineering Management. He first met Tone through his wife who is a fellow Chiropractor and has now joined Green Hub both as committee member and garden volunteer.

“When people asked me what I wanted to do in retirement, the first part of my answer was that I wanted to give back to my community. The second part of the answer was that I was going to take formal qualifications in horticulture, which I began in 2021 and will (I hope!) complete in 2023. I am lucky to have my own garden but I witnessed during Covid the difference which (lack of) access to outside space was making to many peoples mental health. The aims of Green Hub are so commendable in this arena and I am delighted to be able to help in any way that I can.”

I’ve also been involved in Green Hub since the early days in a number of different roles. I’m a wannabe garden designer- my garden design helped Green Hub win a local competition for garden materials donation! Having already done some garden volunteering at a local RHS garden, I wanted to build on that and contribute to a garden that had a local community and wellbeing focus.

Who knew this about Steve…?

"I ended up in A&E the night before our wedding, having headbutted the corner of a radiator when I tripped up. Thankfully one of our guests was our GP!!"

Steve Day

IT Support

I'm a 'talented amateur' when it comes to IT, but it helps if you just know bit more than the person you're helping! Being married to one of the Co-founders made my involvement compulsory, but it's great to be able to share my skills to help build the infrastructure of Green Hub, and helping to present a really professional image. I'm not great in the garden, but feel at home on or around a rugby pitch, or watching any kind of sport of that matter.

My goal is to help build the confidence of my teenage clients and parents to make good decisions about their own food and nutrition to improve their overall health and vitality. I have known Tone for nearly 15 years and over this time I have seen her passion for well-being of teenagers drive the birth of The Green Hub. During his career he started at Midland Bank at the bottom of Friary Street in Guildford and, after 4 years, moved to London to work with Baring Brothers. “With a career history in Asian finance, the Green Hub is a far cry from my background but I have been so energised by the venture and simply inspired by the teens and all the volunteers committed to the project. Pre-pandemic, I was regularly visiting school to do talks on health and wellbeing, and I noticed that teenagers were struggling more and more with emotional and wellbeing issues; so I started incorporating this into my lectures.

“In 2019, I had the opportunity to lease a secluded walled garden attached directly to Luck’s Yard Clinic.
