Promoting mental wellbeing in teens
Green Hub is a local community charity based in Milford, Witley & Godalming supporting teens (10-18) in Waverley, Surrey and NE Hampshire, who are facing social, emotional & mental health challenges. It’s called ‘social therapeutic horticulture’, and they come along to our Green Teens programme for a couple of hours each week for 12 weeks, working in one of our local Green Hub gardens, whatever the weather.
The idea is to teach them strategies that they can use for the rest of their lives, based on the ‘5 ways to wellbeing’. It’s a really powerful approach and we are so proud of the stories we hear from teenagers and their parents. We also support parents with our monthly Parent Hub and other activities.
The recent Milburn interim report on ‘Young People & Work’. As Alan Milburn (Secretary of State for Work & Pensions) commented … “A generation is in genuine distress. The distress is not imagined, but often severely functionally impairing. One thing is for certain, new approaches are needed. Our country can choose differently – one that prioritises the next generation”.
We are proud to be part of that movement. We believe Green Hub is exactly the right charity, doing exactly the right thing, at exactly the right time for our local community. We are determined to be part of the solution creating better outcomes for young people, long into the future.
“Our daughter is back at school, full of confidence and back to her bubbly happy self. She’s absolutely transformed and we feel like we have got our daughter back.”
